NI news: Motorcyclist taken to hospital after crash in Co Down

A man has been taken to hospital after a crash in Co Down on Friday.

Police say they are appealing for information and for anyone who witnessed the collision on North Street in Newtownards yesterday evening.

The incident was reported just before 6.15pm and involved a motorcycle and a car.

The man who was riding the motorbike was taken to hospital for treatment for his injuries.

A PSNI spokesperson said: "Officers are appealing to anyone who witnessed the collision, or who may have captured dash cam footage, to contact them on 101, quoting reference number 1607 of 23/04/21."

Meanwhile, police are asking that all members of the public avoid the Newcastle area today as NIFRS battle large fires in the Mournes.

Their statement continued: "In particular Trassey Road, Bloody Bridge, Tollymore Forest Park and Donard Carpark to ensure NIFRS have full accessibility to these areas. We understand many people will have made plans to walk the Mournes today but we would ask that you reschedule as you will be turned away upon arrival."
