NI news: Man arrested after tractor reportedly going the wrong way on M1

Police have made an arrest after a man allegedly drove down the M1 the wrong way in a tractor.

The vehicle was reportedly observed travelling on the opposite side of the M1 on Friday October 23 at around 3.25am.

In a Facebook post, PSNI Mid Ulster warned that the consequences could have been "tragic" and that they "just don't bear thinking about".

A man in his 70s was arrested at the scene.

Officers say he is being investigated for a number of offences which include "dangerous driving, excess alcohol and disqualified driving".

A PSNI spokesperson told Belfast Live: "The man, who is in his 70s, was released on bail to return at a later date."

Meanwhile, police are appealing to the public for information relating to two separate incidents.

One is relating to a reported hijacking incident in West Belfast where a man was "pulled from his van" by an unknown male.

The van was later found set alight.

The second appeal is for information after a female shop worker was threatened with a large screwdriver during a robbery on the Shankill Road on Sunday evening.
