NI news: Four teens "chased and assaulted" by gang of 15 in 'sectarian attack'

Two boys have suffered facial injuries in a 'sectarian hate crime' in Belfast.

The injured teenagers were among a group of four who were "chased and assaulted" by a gang of around 15 youths on East Bridge Street in the city on Saturday evening, December 5.

Police said they are treating the attack as a sectarian hate crime and have appealed for information from anyone who may have witnessed what happened.

The PSNI's Constable Mulholland said: "At around 6pm it was reported that four teenage boys had been chased and assaulted by a group of approximately 15 teenage males.

"Two of the boys suffered facial injuries," they added.

"Police are treating the incident as a sectarian hate crime and are appealing for witnesses, or anyone who has information to contact them by calling 101, quoting reference number 1306 05/12/20. Alternatively, you can submit a report online using our non-emergency reporting form via  http://www.psni.police.uk/makeareport/."

Anyone with information can also report it anonymously to Crimestoppers.

PC Mulholland continued: "The independent charity Crimestoppers can also be contacted anonymously on 0800 555 111 or online at  http://crimestoppers-uk.org/. "
