NI man wins dream car and £20,000 weeks after losing his job due to Coronavirus

A Co Antrim man and his wife have been left stunned after winning a brand new BMW car worth £20,000 as well as £20,000 in cash.

Steven Hamilton from Carrickfergus, lost his job just weeks ago due to the Coronavirus pandemic but his fortune has turned around for the better after winning an online dream car competition with BOTB.

The 48-year-old and his wife Elaine, who is working as a district nurse on the frontline, were stunned when he received a call from BOTB presenter Christian Williams to tell him he had won the car, a BMW e46 and the cash.

Steven worked as an installer of pool tables and arcade games until the crisis hit and he was made unemployed at short notice.

Telling of his shock at getting the call, Steven said: "I just could not believe it. People here don’t win anything, and this could not have come at a better time for us.

“It was devastating to lose my job, and I know that is the case for a lot of people. What it means is that some of the financial worries I may have had have been lifted a bit, it will be such a huge help.

“Elaine is a district nurse and is on the frontline every day, and the last thing she needs is further worries like me being out of work throughout all of this.”

Steven has been a fan of the BMW e46 MW since his friend introduced him to them years ago.

He said: “I always say go for a car you want on BOTB. I used to drive my friend’s BMW e46 and I just thought it was incredible. It almost got to a collectable status now where people just want to own and keep them.”

BOTB presenter Christian Williams surprises winners all over the world every week, although during coronavirus he will be doing surprises over Facetime, rather than visiting the winners on their doorsteps.

He said: “One of the greatest pleasures I get from doing the BOTB surprises is delivering the prizes to those who really need them.

“Steven has gone through a rough time losing his job and Elaine is doing brilliant work in the NHS, and I’m delighted to be able to deliver them this dream car as well as the cash, knowing what a difference it will make to their lives.”

Since being founded in 1999 by William Hindmarch, BOTB has given away over £29m worth of prizes.

Listed on the stock market, BOTB has a high-profile stand at airports although most people play online at BOTB.com
