NI Football League to present clubs with framework document following talks

The NI Football League hopes to be in a position next week to present clubs with a framework document on how to complete the season.

It follows a "productive" conference call last night between all 12 top flight clubs, NIFL's board and the Irish FA.

During the meeting clubs were updated on the current position of the IFA and NIFL amid the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.

Further discussions will be held with Championship and Premier Intermediate League officials tonight.

All football in Northern Ireland is currently suspended until May 31 at the earliest, with the NI Executive's five-step Covid-19 recovery plan casting further doubt on when the game will restart here.

"Clubs gave their views, and they also heard from the IFA and NIFL board," said one insider.

"It was a discussion where everyone had their say. Now those views will be formulated into a framework document on how we move forward from here.

"It was a productive meeting."

Despite some calls for this season to be voided or ended prematurely due to the ongoing Covid-19 crisis, it is understood a decision is not imminent on how to conclude the current campaign.

"The NIFL board will meet Championship and PIL clubs tonight. This isn't about one division, it is about them all," the insider added.

"There are relegation and promotion issues to be considered, so there is a lot of work to be done."
