UEFA has issued the NI Football League with a May 25 deadline to confirm a return date for football in Northern Ireland.
All domestic football has been suspended since the beginning of March due to the coronavirus crisis.
Last week the Irish FA extended the suspension to May 31, which had previously stood at April 30.
A "tentative date" of July 20 has been set for leagues to conclude their season by, with UEFA wanting member associations to confirm their plans by May 25.
UEFA remains committed to completing the current season, and recently outlined guidelines on eligibility principles for next season 2020/21 including awarding European spots based on 'sporting merit'.
"The European Leagues have stressed the importance to keep unity and consensus among members and suggested that members do not take any hasty decisions regarding the end of the current season and the start of the new season in domestic calendar with the main aim to safeguard the integrity of competitions," read a NI Football League statement.
It added: "The COVID-19 Steering Group, established by the NIFL Board on 18 March 2020, will continue to liaise with all relevant stakeholders to obtain further information to allow the NI Football League, and our clubs, to take important decisions in advance of the UEFA deadline of 25 May 2020.
"Arrangements will be made for all member clubs to discuss the next steps in their respective league Management Committee meetings to be held on Monday 11 May 2020."
NIFL added that Uefa acknowledges that there may be legitimate reasons for countries to prematurely conclude their domestic competitions.
Any league or national association doing so must explain its reasons by May 25, and also outline how it would select its clubs for entry to 2020-21 UEFA club competitions.
