NI Football League announces revised fixture schedule for New Year

Boxing Day's postponed fixtures in the Danske Bank Premiership will now be played on January 9.

The NI Football League confirmed the move on Thursday evening after the opening round of the Irish Cup was postponed.

The cup was due to kick-off on the second Saturday of January but has now been delayed after the NI Executive failed to grant the competition elite status.

All sport in Northern Ireland is off between December 26 and January 1, forcing the postponement of Premiership games on Boxing Day and December 29.

The NIFL Fixtures Sub-Committee today confirmed that fixtures scheduled for Saturday, January 2 will proceed as planned, with Boxing Day's games now being played on Saturday, January 9.
