NI coronavirus: Deputy First Minister Michelle O'Neill says she is self-isolating after 'positive test result in my home'

Deputy First Minister Michelle O'Neill has said she is self-isolating after a positive coronavirus test result in her household.

The Sinn Fein deputy leader said she will continue her ministerial work remotely.

Ms O'Neill tweeted: "I will now have to self-isolate due to a positive test result in my home.

"I will work from home to continue to protect families, workers and to take us through this pandemic."

It is not the first time Ms O'Neill has had to self-isolate during the coronavirus pandemic.

Last October, she self-isolated after learning a relative had tested positive for the virus.

The Deputy First Minister, who tested negative at the time, continued to carry out her ministerial duties remotely.

Several MLAs have previously completed a period of isolation during the pandemic.

Last December it emerged Agriculture Minister Edwin Poots was self-isolating after testing positive for Covid-19.

The DUP MLA was tested twice while in hospital for an operation to remove his appendix, with one test giving a positive result for coronavirus.

The SDLP's Daniel McCrossan and the UUP's John Stewart have also previously tested positive for coronavirus in the months since the pandemic began.
