NI Coronavirus: 16 further deaths and 439 new cases reported by DoH

The Department of Health has reported a further 16 coronavirus related deaths.

According to the latest update, 12 of the fatalities are said to have occurred within the current reporting period, with four deaths occurring outside the current 24-hour period.

The death toll in Northern Ireland now stands at 1,219, according to the DoH.

Tuesday's dashboard update reports a further 439 positive cases of the virus, bringing the total number of positive cases to 62,936 since the start of the pandemic.

Over the past seven days, the Department says 3,847 individuals have tested positive in Northern Ireland.

There are currently 447 Covid-19 confirmed patients in hospital and 30 in intensive care.

Meanwhile, the NI Executive is advising against all but essential travel between Northern Ireland and Great Britain/Republic of Ireland with immediate effect.

All new arrivals into the region are also being be asked to self-isolate for 10 days.

New guidance is expected to be issued on the move, giving further clarity on what is deemed "essential".

Ministers unanimously backed plans to issue updated guidance after a majority voted against imposing a travel ban from Britain into Northern Ireland.
