NI Coronavirus: 12 further deaths and 510 new cases reported by DoH

The Department of Health has reported a further 12 coronavirus related deaths.

According to the latest update, 11 of the fatalities are said to have occurred within the current reporting period, with the remaining death occurring outside the current 24-hour period.

The death toll in Northern Ireland now stands at 1,166, according to the DoH.

Friday's dashboard update reports a further 510 positive cases of the virus, bringing the total number of positive cases to 60,797 since the start of the pandemic.

Over the past seven days, the Department says 3,539 individuals have tested positive in Northern Ireland.

There are currently 445 Covid-19 confirmed patients in hospital and 31 in intensive care.

Meanwhile, the Northern Ireland Executive has agreed a set of new regulations that will come into force from Boxing Day.

The six-week lockdown measures will start at 12.01am on December 26 and will be reviewed after four weeks.

Christmas bubbles of three households will still be permitted, but they must end by December 28.

Here is the list of restrictions:

  • Non-essential retail to close when shops shut on Christmas Eve, including garden centres, click & collect services, and homeware
  • All hospitality to close, except deliveries & takeaway (Hotels, B&Bs, hostels exempted)
  • Close contact services, including hair salons, tattoo shops, beauticians to close
  • Car washes will close
  • All essential businesses that will be allowed to open must close at 8pm for the first week of lockdown
  • No sporting activity of any capacity during first week of lockdown
  • No household mixing except in an emergency
  • No outdoor mixing with other households
  • People will be asked to stay at home after 8pm for the first week of the lockdown
  • Outdoor exercise will have to be undertaken alone or with members of your household
  • Schools will not close but more focus on remote-learning
