NI Coronavirus: 12 further deaths and 487 new cases reported by DoH

The Department of Health has reported a further 12 coronavirus related deaths.

According to the latest update, 10 of the fatalities are said to have occurred within the current reporting period, with the other two deaths occurring outside the current 24-hour period.

The death toll in Northern Ireland now stands at 901, according to the DoH.

Thursday's dashboard update reports a further 487 positive cases of the virus, bringing the total number of positive cases to 48,716 since the start of the pandemic.

Over the past seven days, the Department says 3,401 individuals have tested positive in Northern Ireland.

There are currently 456 Covid-19 confirmed patients in hospital and 41 in intensive care.

Meanwhile, The Health Minister has said he will be recommending further restrictions to the Executive at a meeting today.

He made the comments at a press conference on Wednesday evening where he was joined by Chief Medical Officer Dr Michael McBride and Chief Scientific Advisor Professor Ian Young.

The Chief Scientific Advisor has warned that it could be likely further restrictions will be imposed in Northern Ireland before Christmas.
