NI Coronavirus: 12 further deaths and 483 new cases reported by DoH

The Department of Health has reported a further 12 coronavirus related deaths.

According to the latest update, seven of the fatalities are said to have occurred within the current reporting period, with the other five deaths occurring outside the current 24-hour period.

The death toll in Northern Ireland now stands at 1,085, according to the DoH.

Wednesday's dashboard update reports a further 483 positive cases of the virus, bringing the total number of positive cases to 56,278 since the start of the pandemic.

Over the past seven days, the Department says 3,031 individuals have tested positive in Northern Ireland.

There are currently 425 Covid-19 confirmed patients in hospital and 31 in intensive care.

Meanwhile, as the Northern Ireland Executive prepares to ease some restrictions ahead of Christmas, a number of bars have said they have chosen not to reopen this year.

The Limelight, on Ormeau Avenue, issued a statement saying it had taken the decision not to reopen this weekend and had cancelled its upcoming Shane Todd Christmas Roast shows.

A number of other hospitality premises have followed suit and said that despite the fact they are allowed to open this weekend, after more than seven weeks of closure, due to the restrictions that remain on the industry, they will remain closed.
