NI charities 'speechless' at £50,000 donation from Lightbody Foundation

Local charities have been left speechless by the kind hearted gesture of The Lightbody Foundation, which gave £10,000 to five Northern Irish charities in need.

The Foundation, which was set up by Snow Patrol frontman Gary Lightbody, aims to give funding and support to charities throughout Northern Ireland who are helping those in need.

The Foundation announced on Monday evening that they would be giving funding to five charities, People's Kitchen, Belfast Together NI Portadown Cares LIFEHub n.i. and Unit T.

These charities help supply mainly food and support to those who need within the community.

In a statement shared with the announcement, the Foundation said:

"These 5 charities  People's Kitchen Belfast   Together NI   Portadown Cares   LIFEHub n.i.   Unit T  supply food, support and aid to people in dire need all over NI, the demand for which has soared this year. They are helping bring people in our wee country a sense of normalcy and kindness this Christmas. Thanks to all these charities for the work they do. gL [Gary Lightbody]."

In response to the unexpected gesture, the charities listed thanked the Foundation for the funding.

Together NI thanked The Foundation for their support and said: "We are speechless."

The People's Kitchen said: "We were delighted to hear this news that we will receive £10,000 from The Lightbody Foundation that will help us continue to deliver an important service across Belfast. A huge thank you from all the volunteers."

Unit t said: "Christmas arrived early at Unit T Community Kitchen. We are truly gratefully to receive this incredible donation from the Lightbody foundation. This is a real lifeline, allowing us to reach many more people within our community over the coming months. Huge thank you to the Lightbody Foundation for supporting us!"
