The National Health Security Office (NHSO) has provided 1 billion baht in financial compensation to 9,551 people who have developed undesirable effects from Covid-19 vaccinations.
Secretary-general Jadet Thammathat-aree said that as of Friday, 12,882 people had lodged complaints after coming down with bad effects after receiving the vaccine as part of the national mass rollout campaign.
So far, the NHSO has approved compensation for 9,551 (74%), worth 1 billion baht. The office has rejected requests by 14% who failed to meet criteria while 11% of claims remain under consideration.
The criteria for claiming compensation were set by the NHSO on May 16 last year.
Many had complained of fever, stomach ache, vomiting, skin irritation, headache, tight chest, numbness and phylaxis shock.
In total, 7,037 people have received payouts of up to 100,000 baht for milder reactions, while 250 were deemed to deserve 100,000 to 240,000 baht for more permanent conditions that could have been caused by the vaccine, such as losing functions of their limbs or becoming temporarily disabled.
Compensation reaching 400,000 baht was awarded to 2,264 families of deceased kin whose deaths could have been attributable to side-effects of the vaccines, said Mr Jadet.
If a claim is rejected, it is possible to lodge an appeal with the NHSO secretary-general within 30 days, he added.
