White stag running through the streets of Bootle

This is the moment a deer was caught running through the streets of Bootle.

NHS worker Paula, who did not want to give her surname, from Crosby was travelling to work to Royal Liverpool University Hospital on Sunday and couldn't believe what she saw.

At around 8.45am Paula was coming over the flyover in Seaforth and noticed a police car at the top of Knowsley Road.

Update: The stag is now dead. Read more here.

It was then she saw the white deer and said as the officer approached the animal it sped off towards Bootle.

Paula caught the animal running down Derby Road, past a car showroom.

Speaking to the ECHO, Paula said: "I was on my way to work at the Royal this morning.

"As I came over the flyover in Seaforth, there was a police car at the lights at the top of Knowsley Road and as the officer approached off it ran towards Bootle.

"It must have been have been quite scared and I genuinely have no idea where it was from."

Paula added she had thought about where the deer had ended up all day.

She said: "There really isn’t anywhere local I’d imagine finding a white stag like this.

"I’ve thought all day where this guy came from and also where he ended up."

Paula shared the video on Twitter, where a couple of other people said they also saw the deer in Bootle.

Twitter user @Adrianhoward21 said he spotted the deer on Knowsley Road at around 9am and shared a photo of the animal running down the residential street.

People also commented jokingly to say that the deer must have been on a "stag do" and that was the reason why it was lost.

Others said they hoped the animal was safe and that it must have been "terrified".
