NHS worker offers £1000 reward to catch masked thug after 'homophobic' acid attack on car

An NHS worker whose car was vandalised in a suspected homophobic attack is offering a £1000 reward in a bid to catch the culprit.

Greg Mahony, 33, was left raging after a masked thug poured a corrosive liquid over his Honda Civic while it was parked outside his home in Port Seton, East Lothian, earlier this week.

Greg, who works with NHS Lothian helping the blind and deaf with translation services, believes the attack was due to his sexuality and has admitted he has now been left "feeling unsafe" in his own home.

Greg and husband Andy Pielorz, 41, are now offering the massive reward in the hope a local knows the identity of the vandal.

Greg posted a message on social media stating: "Here is an up-to-date poster for the Port Seton vandal.

"He poured paint stripper on a vehicle at Laburnum Avenue at 1.15am on 13/07. This poster will be distributed around Port Seton in due course.

"If you recognise the man (believed to be local with motivation and hate to do this against me) then please report confidentially to police.

"A large cash reward (£1000) is now available, offered by friends and family for help leading to conviction.

"Until this man is found then he may strike other cars and vandalise other property, vehicles are not safe.

"Any info may lead to prosecution and the reward is still available. This crime was conducted out of hate. Please either email or contact police."

Following the attack Greg said: "We are a gay couple and our car was the only car targeted.

"The person came directly to my vehicle and they specifically targeted bits of my car I had painted recently.

"We believe this to be a homophobic attack. I have CCTV of their face and won't release yet as police have specialist hate crime officers working on the case.

"It's a real shame this is happening in our community."

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "Around 11:40am on Monday, police received a report of a car being damaged in Port Seton in East Lothian and enquiries are ongoing."
