NHS staff charged £18 to park at Glasgow hospital amid coronavirus pandemic

NHS staff are still being charged to leave their motors in the multi-storey car park at Glasgow Royal Infirmary.

Workers at the hospital are being forced to pay tariffs of £18 for 10 hours while they work at the busy hospital during the coronavirus pandemic.

James Stewart, whose wife works at the facility said: “Waiting on my wife to finish her shift at Glasgow Royal Infirmary and this private company is still charging nurses and medical staff to park. Bloody disgraceful”.

Just last week Glasgow City Council scrapped all on-street parking in the city as the crisis deepened.

However, a worker for the car park, operated by APCOA Parking, confirmed to Glasgow Live this morning that the car park was still charging, but said “this could change at any time”.

A spokeswoman for APCOA Parking said: “The Glasgow Royal Infirmary car park is an NHS car park and we operate it on behalf of the NHS trust so it is not something we have control over. We are lobbying them to relax the rules.

“That is the situation at the moment. If the trust changes this we will of course immediately respond.”
