NHS staff can get free video games including FIFA and Fortnite

Major gaming companies are getting together for a new 'Games for Carers' initiative.

NHS workers can now gain free access to popular titles such as FIFA and Fortnite in a scheme initiated by Scottish gaming journalist Chris Scullion.

The idea soon gathered momentum and has now been officially backed by leaders within the gaming industry including EA, Konami, Xbox and Sega.

Popular games from FIFA to Fortnite will be available on all platforms including PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch and mobile.

Designed for when staff "get some well-earned down time, or to provide relief for their families" more details on how to access the games can be found on this recently launched 'Games for Carers' website.

A total of 85,000 games will be available to download in what Ukie, the Association for UK Interactive Entertainment, describe as a thank-you for the "truly extraordinary people who make up the NHS frontline team".

Ukie CEO Dr Jo Twist said: "Games companies of all sizes and players everywhere recognise their exceptional dedication and hope this initiative goes some way to help them to understand how respected and valued they are."
