NHS provides update as Covid-19 cases linked to call centre continues to rise

NHS Lanarkshire have confirmed 14 people have now tested positive for coronavirus linked to the premises of a North Lanarkshire virus contact tracing centre.

The health board also confirmed a further five cases arising from “linked contacts” relating to the centre operated by Sitel at Maxim Park, Eurocentral near Motherwell.

Dr David Cromie, consultant in public health medicine, NHS Lanarkshire, said: “Our public health team, alongside North Lanarkshire Council, continues to work closely with the employer Sitel and staff in the building who have been encouraged to have tests carried out.

“NHS Lanarkshire’s incident management team has been meeting regularly to investigate.

Dr Cromie added: “A total of 14 positive cases associated with Sitel’s premises have been identified to date, with an additional five cases arising from linked contacts.

“We are taking all of the necessary steps to identify those who may have been in contact with a confirmed case of Covid-19 and to mitigate the risk of onward transmission to others.

“We would like to reassure the local community that appropriate measures are being implemented.”

Earlier today, a pub in Motherwell shut its doors to punters after a staff member was linked to the Lanarkshire call centre coronavirus outbreak.

The Railway Tavern, on Merry Street, closed for the day to allow for a deep clean of the premises after learning that a part time member of staff had links to the call centre.
