NHS nurses' pay protest to take place in Nottingham city centre

Protesters will take to Nottingham city centre demanding better pay conditions for NHS nurses.

The protest will take place between 11am and 1.30pm on Saturday, August 8, near the Brian Clough statue next to Old Market Square.

Organisers say the demonstration will be peaceful and socially distanced.

A Facebook post advertising the event has attracted more than 300 people who are interested in going.

Details on the post said: "We need to make a stand following the latest public sector pay rise that failed to recognise the nursing profession and all NHS Staff. Please join my colleagues and myself in a peaceful, socially distanced demonstration."

The protest comes in response to the Government issuing a pay rise to armed forces, teachers, police officers, the National Crime Agency, prison officers, doctors and dentists - with 900,000 workers benefiting with the increased pay packet across the country.

Teachers and doctors will see the largest rise at 3.1% and 2.8% respectively with the Government saying it is recognising their efforts on the frontline during the battle against Covid-19.
