The Edinburgh and Lothians Health Foundation have launched a new 'COVID-19 appeal' to support NHS Lothian during the coronavirus pandemic.
The organisation is an official charity of the health board and are appealing for aid as the number of coronavirus cases in the Lothian region continues to reach new highs. In the last 24 hours the numbers in the area rose by 28, taking the total to 139 cases.
So far the charity have raised over £100,000 of their £1million target, with donations from across the region continuing to flood in. The funds are to be put towards additional support for new equipment and technology, as well as looking after the welfare of NHS Lothian staff working to save lives in the region.
On their Just Giving page, the organisation stated:
"We are appealing to our community of friends, supporters and partners to support us in raising money as part of our Covid-19 appeal. For the NHS to help us, we need to help them. We want the staff across NHS Lothians to be well-equipped and prepared to provide vital care to patients and communities affected by the Covid-19 virus.
"As the official charity of NHS Lothian, we will be working together with our NHS colleagues to understand where their area of greatest need is, as the situation changes."
The NHS Lothian service provides for the second largest residential population in Scotland, serving an estimated 800,000 people with 24,000 staff.
