NHS issues breakdown on number of Covid patients in Nottinghamshire hospitals

The number of patients in hospital with Covid in Nottinghamshire has risen, according to NHS data.

There have been 114 admissions relating to Covid in the seven days up to August 15 which compares to 81 in the previous seven day period.

The NHS in Nottinghamshire had 146 hospital beds occupied by Covid patients as of August 17.

There were 116 hospital beds occupied by Covid patients on August 10.

As of August 17 in those 146 beds, 23 patients had to be mechanically ventilated.

In the week ending August 6, there were five Covid deaths in Nottinghamshire.

The latest figures show that Mansfield has the third-highest Covid rate in England, up from 503.9 to 591.7, with 647 new cases.

Over half of local areas in England (59%) have seen a rise in week-on-week case rates.

The figures, for the seven days up to August 15, are based on the number of people who have tested positive for Covid in either a lab-reported or rapid lateral flow test, by specimen date.

The rate is expressed as the number of new cases per 100,000 people.

Recent figures have also shown that nearly half of Nottingham's young people have not received their first Covid vaccination jab.

According to the PA news agency, Nottingham has the third-lowest percentage in the country of 18 to 29-year-olds (50.6%) who have had their first dose.

Birmingham is the local authority in England with the lowest estimated percentage of 18 to 29-year-olds to have received one jab (47.1%). The second-lowest is Coventry (47.9%).

The latest estimate for the number of 18 to 29-year-olds who are unvaccinated is 2.9 million, which is only slightly lower than the previous estimate of 3 million one week ago.
