NHS hiring emergency workers for Louisa Jordan coronavirus hospital at Glasgow's SEC

The NHS are hiring emergency staff for the Louisa Jordan temporary coronavirus hospital at Glasgow's SEC.

The Scottish Events Campus is currently being transformed to provide beds for 300 patients with coronavirus symptoms.

Porter and ward hosts workers are currently being sought, with the roles described as 'physically and emotionally challenging'.

On the listings for the full-time, temporary contract positions, which advertise payment of £9.50 to £11.50 an hour, it says: "During the current Covid-19 crisis, our NHS is under severe pressure to deliver on unprecedented levels of workload and patient support.

"We are recruiting for people who want to make a difference on the front line of patient support, and contribute to the fight against the coronavirus.

"This role will be both physically and emotionally challenging, so please think carefully before applying."

On Friday, First Minister Nicola Sturgeon said that she expects the hospital to be be ready "within a fortnight" although there is also “hope and expectation” the repurposed SEC will not need to be used as a hospital.

Heroic Maryhill nurse Louisa Jordan had signed up for the Scottish Women's Hospital's foreign service in 1914. She died aged 36 in February 1915 after contracting typhus while in active service in Serbia.
