NHS England announces 336 new coronavirus deaths in hospitals

NHS England today said a further 336 people had died with coronavirus in its hospitals, bringing the total number of confirmed deaths in England to 18.420.

In a statement they said: "Patients were aged between 28 and 100 years old. 22 of the 336 patients (aged between 41 and 94 years old) had no known underlying health condition.

"Their families have been informed."

The most new deaths came in the North East and Yorkshire, with 66, followed by 64 in London.

In the North West, 46 people died.

18 deaths were recorded in Scotland and 14 in Wales.

The tragic figure is much lower than has been reported in recent days, raising hopes the UK could be descending from the peak number of deaths.

However, weekend figures are often lower than those during the week due to reporting issues, and people are being warned in general not to pay too close attention to daily fluctuations in death toll numbers.
