NHS 'disappointed' as hand sanitiser missing from Glasgow hospitals amid coronavirus crisis

Members of the public have been urged not to remove hand sanitisers from Glasgow hospitals amid the growing coronavirus outbreak in Scotland.

NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde (NHSGGC) have said they are "disappointed" that hand sanitisers have been going missing from hospital wards around the city.

Multiple shops have been running out of stock of hand sanitiser gels as people buy the product in bulk to combat the COVID-19 strain of the disease.

Now, NHSGGC has reminded the public that hand sanitiser in hospital are there to protect members of the public as well as staff and patients.

A spokesperson for the health board said: "We are disappointed at reports of hand sanitiser going missing in hospitals. We would remind people that the most effective way of combating Coronovirus is through regular and thorough hand washing.

"We have good stocks of hand sanitiser throughout NHSGGC and would remind people that hand gel in our wards and public areas is there to protect our staff, visitors and our patients."

The second case of coronavirus in Glasgow was confirmed by the Scottish Government yesterday, with the total number of cases in Scotland now at 16.
