NHS Covid pass app and website goes DOWN leaving fuming Brits stranded at airport

Brits travelling abroad today have been left stuck after NHS App went down meaning passengers couldn't access vaccine passports.

Holidaymakers took their frustrations online and some complaining they had missed their flight entirely.

Anyone trying to log into the app this afternoon were met with a message that read: "There are currently issues with accessing the Covid pass on the NHS App and website.

"We are investigating the issue and will update as soon as we can."

NHS Digital also tweeted: "There are currently issues with accessing the Covid Pass on the NHS App and website. We are investigating the issue and will update as soon as we can."

Chuck Adolphy was looking forward to jetting off to Slovenia with his girlfriend today but his hopes were shattered when he couldn't access the NHS app and he missed his flight.

Chuck described this afternoon at Gatwick Airport as a "shambles" after he says EasyJet turned him away without his Covid pass, despite showing his vaccine card.

The social media manager told The Mirror Online: "Got to the airport this morning, all set. Went to go on the app and my Covid pass wasn’t appearing. I didn’t even realise at the time there was an outage.

"I was just turned away and told they couldn’t do anything about it. Rang the number and they said the app and site are down and there is nothing they can do. EasyJet said nothing either.

"Showed them my vaccine card and nothing. Shambles!"

The 24-year-old said he is now looking to fly to Ireland tomorrow after losing too much money on flights and hotels.

He says that EasyJet said there wasn't anything they could do to help either.

Many online expressed concerns they wouldn't make their flights later today.

One said: "Is there any estimation of how long the fix will take? Due to travel in 4 hours time, but won't be if the app isn't working again."

Another added: "On a flight in half an hour, what do I do?"

One said: "Waiting to fly at Heathrow and the NHS app has crashed with all the COVID vaccination proof available.

"Currently not allowed to fly. Going to be an interesting afternoon at Heathrow.""

Other functions on the app, such as accessing the health records, appear to still be working.

The Covid Pass is also required for entry to some events and locations in England - but most entertainment venues don't require it as restrictions have relaxed.

The digital version is available to those over the age of 16 who were vaccinated in England, Wales, or the Isle of Man.

Fully vaccinated people in England can also get a paper version of the pass but it can take up to five working days to arrive.

Accessing vaccine records in the NHS app is different to the NHS Covid-19 app, which was used to estimate exposure to those who tested positive to the virus, and "ping" people telling them to self-isolate.
