NHS confirm individuals at two Wishaw primary schools test positive for Covid-19

NHS Lanarkshire have confirmed individuals at two Wishaw primary schools have tested positive for coronavirus.

Individuals at both St Aidan’s Primary and St Ignatius Primary School are self-isolating at home following the positive Covid-19 test.

However, Dr Jennifer Darnborough, NHS Lanarkshire consultant in public health medicine, insist the risk to the wider school community is low and the schools will remain open.

She said: “NHS Lanarkshire’s Test and Protect team has carried out contact tracing after an individual at St Aidan’s Primary and St Ignatius Primary tested positive for Covid-19. They are currently self-isolating at home.

“NHS Lanarkshire is working closely with North Lanarkshire Council with regards to the cases and is contacting all close contacts. Public health advice is being given to these individuals and they are being told to self-isolate.

Lanarkshire bracing itself for second lockdown

“The risk to the wider school community is currently low and the schools will remain open as normal.”

The news comes as a leaked letter this week revealed the Scottish Government is considering imposing the toughest covid restrictions on North and South Lanarkshire.
