NHS BORDERS has donated a selection of surplus medical equipment to Pickups for Peace, a humanitarian initiative that delivers essential supplies to Ukraine.
The donation, which included suction units and other medical supplies such as dressings and bandages, was transported to the Ukrainian capital of Kyiv in late February.
Contributing this donation to the Pickups for Peace initiative ensures that equipment NHS Borders can no longer use can be re-purposed and used where it is most needed.
The suction units no longer meet NHS Scotland’s requirements but will still be of great use to healthcare providers in Ukraine.
The donation will support frontline medical teams in Ukraine, helping them provide essential care to patients in challenging conditions.
The donations were co-ordinated by the Peebles Rotary Club, whose efforts ensured that this surplus equipment and many other donated supplies could reach the Ukrainian front line.
As a thank you for our contribution to the cause, Peebles Rotary Club has made a £100 donation to NHS Borders charity ‘The Difference’ which will be used in efforts to enhance patient care and experience locally.
Karen Hamilton, chair of NHS Borders, said: “We are pleased that equipment we can no longer use will continue to benefit patients elsewhere.
“This donation does not impact our resources or finances but does ensure that valuable medical equipment is put to good use rather than going to waste.”
