NHS apologises after West Lothian residents turn up to empty vaccination site

The NHS have apologised after West Lothian residents were locked out of their coronavirus vaccination appointments over the holiday weekend.

Scores of locals were sent out their vaccination appointment letters for Strathbrock Partnership Centre over the Easter bank holiday weekend - but when individuals turned up for their jag they found that the building was shut.

The site had been closed for the Easter break, yet somehow appointments were still arranged for the dates, reports the Daily Record.

The NHS National Services Scotland (NSS) have apologised to people in West Lothian and say that this was down to an oversight but they are taking action to ensure it doesn’t happen again.

One resident complained about turning up on Sunday and Monday to find the centre closed, adding: “Many many people turned up at The Strathbrock medical practice this morning (Monday) in Broxburn with vaccination appointments only to find the building closed and no one vaccinating, same scenario yesterday too. Shocking.”

A spokesperson for NHS National Services Scotland (NSS) admitted an error had been made in issuing appointments.

They continued: "A number of vaccination appointments were scheduled over the Easter weekend in the Lothian area.

“This maintained the momentum of Scotland’s successful vaccination programme and allowed more people to be protected against Covid-19 as swiftly as possible.

“However, we regret that a small number of people were wrongly scheduled for locations that were closed over the public holidays.

“We apologise for any inconvenience this caused and have taken action to prevent this happening again.”
