NHS and emergency service staff can get 50% off at Yo! Sushi this Christmas

People working in the NHS, emergency services and armed forces can buy Yo! Sushi at half the price over the festive period.

The bumper discount is for those who hold a blue light card - what the fast-food chain calls the ‘heroes that don’t wear capes’.

Card holders can get a 20 per cent discount year-round but the additional 30 per cent has been added as a thank you to those that have to give up the family holiday to care for the needy up until December 31, Edinburgh Live reports.

The deal is available everyday excluding Wednesday and Saturday for customers eating in the restaurant.

The trend of corporate chains giving back sees Uber offering NHS staff free rides and food.

From Monday 23 until Friday 27, staff can enjoy a couple of free Uber trips up to the value of £10 per ride.

Meanwhile, Deliveroo is donating funds from every food order made in December to support midwives in the UK.

In an online Christmas campaign, Deliveroo pledged to raise £100,000 for midwives, by donating to London NHS Trust University College London Hospitals with every order made, contributing towards training for midwives and new equipment, The Mirror previously reported.

More than 400,000 NHS staff gave up their time with loved ones last year to care for patients and their families on Christmas Day alone.

Around 82,000 nurses and 55,000 nursing assistants work in hospitals across the UK, while around 12,000 midwives work to welcome some 1,400 babies.

Meanwhile, the festive season sees around 12,000 frontline ambulance staff, including paramedics, emergency medical technicians and call handlers on the ‘big day’.
