NHC says 70% chance of cyclone over northeastern Gulf of Mexico

(Reuters) - A broad low pressure area that has emerged over Apalachee Bay in the northeastern Gulf of Mexico has a 70% chance of becoming a tropical cyclone over the next 48 hours, the U.S. National Hurricane Center (NHC) said on Tuesday.

"A tropical depression is likely to form by late Wednesday or Thursday while the system moves westward across the northern Gulf of Mexico," the NHC said.
