Ngunnawal flooding issues spread to nearby streets

Flooding issues that have plagued a Gungahlin street and its residents for several years have also started to impact on other nearby roads.

A mysterious underground water source beneath Tarra Place in Ngunnawal has led to widespread flooding damage in homes along the street and to the road itself, despite multiple attempts by the government and engineers to fix the issue.

Now, those same issues have affected homes along Jabanungga Avenue, which intersects Tarra Place.

One resident on Jabanungga Avenue, who declined be named, told The Canberra Times that issues had been developing for several months.

"We moved in two years ago, but in the last 12 months we've noticed a lot of water issues in the backyard, and the area is constantly wet," they said.

"The issue has been getting worse, especially on the roads, where there is water coming through the surface and there are a lot more of the giant lumps on the road.

"I've tried making complaints to the government about eight or nine times but nothing has been done in terms of the road issues."

An ACT government spokesman previously said works were slated to begin in August to investigate the cause of the issue and would take two months.

Previous attempts have been made to patch up the large holes in the road, but the issues have resurfaced due to the water underneath.

A geotechnical report issued earlier this year said a potential cause was from an uphill source due to the development and expansion of Ngunnawal.
