In a move to help students from poor families pursue their education in government schools, free coaching is being offered to over 400 students of Class X by the Vandemataram Foundation at Thorrur mandal in Mahabubabad district.
The students will have their exams in May.
The Vandemataram Foundation is an NGO working in the field of education for 17 years.
The students were selected based on a written test held a few days ago at different government high schools in the erstwhile Warangal district.
Students from Suryapet, Jagityal, Godavarikhani, Khammam, Mahabubnagar, Kalwakurthy and Amangal, also took the test. All of them are Zilla Parishad Government High School students.
The coaching that started on Friday will be for about one-and-a-half months. Students will be sent back home after the coaching, one week ahead of the exams.
“We are spending anywhere between ₹25 lakh and ₹30 lakh every year to offer coaching to these students. For five years, we got the support of Sajjanar. Some NRIs also extended assistance. This academic year, Akshaya Patra Foundation came forward to help us. As many as 150 government school teachers are coming forward to coach the students,” T. Ravinder, founder of Vandemataram Foundation, told The Hindu.
Some IAS, IPS officers, and scientists from NIN, RCI, DRDO and innovators would interact with the students during their stay. Former MLC Chukka Ramaiah would mentor the students.
