The NFLPA has launched a new webpage to serve as the information hub for the league as it grapples with the realities of the coronavirus.
The page includes information about return to work, testing and COVID-related policies for players, teams and facilities. It will be continually updated to keep players, fans and media in the loop on everything related to the virus and the NFL.
Some information that the NFLPA has already released includes a heat map of COVID-19 cases occurring in each NFL market. On the heatmap, you can view 14-day averages for daily cases and cases per 100,000 population density.
As for the Kansas City Chiefs, the NFLPA’s data shows that there are 630 cumulative cases per 100,000 people in the Kansas City area. That includes both numbers from the Kansas and Missouri sides of the city, with reporting allocated from various counties and entities. The data also shows that Kansas City adds 14.2 new cases average on a daily basis.
In addition to this heatmap with state and city-based information, the NFLPA is providing updates on NFL players who’ve tested positive for COVID-19. As of July 10, there are 72 players with a known positive test for the virus. It’s unclear if this information is stemming from testing that the NFLPA and NFL have already conducted or if this is merely the players who’ve tested positive during the course of the offseason.
This is a complex issue for the league to manage with various parts of the country dealing with massive spikes in coronavirus cases. This webpage seems like a step in the right direction in keeping everyone informed about the virus as it relates to the return of the NFL.
