The New England Patriots have their No. 1 QB and it’s not Cam Newton, who was surprisingly cut by the team on Tuesday morning, per multiple reports.
The new starting QB will be Mac Jones, who the team selected with the No. 15 pick in last April’s NFL draft.
Jones looked very good in the preseason and got lots of reps with the first team (especially after Newton had to miss five days due to an issue with COVID protocols) so this isn’t a huge surprise but the cutting of Newton is a big surprise as it seemed like if he didn’t win the No. 1 job he’d be a good backup for the rookie.
But now he’s gone:

All NFL teams have to cut their rosters down to 53 players today so there will likely be some more big names being dropped today
