NFL weighing multiple contingency plans for the regular season

Despite the fact that most states are putting plans into place to re-open on a limited basis, the NFL is still looking to the regular season with a watchful eye.

Sports Business Daily laid out several of the potential contingency plans the NFL is considering due to ongoing concerns over the COVID-19 pandemic. The NFL understands there is a huge difference between opening up a restaurant with limited seating and trying to safety get 60,000+ fans into a stadium.

Of all the possible changes the one that stands out would be the elimination of bye weeks. Those breaks are huge for players when injuries and fatigue are already a concern. I would much rather see everything pushed back with the entire season shifted three weeks than to eliminate those by weeks.

Other professional sports leagues shuttered their seasons at the beginning of the pandemic but the NFL had the good fortune of being in a position where they can even consider having a regular season.
