NFL Week 8: 11 bold predictions

Robert Hanashiro-USA TODAY Sports

The NFL season heads into Week 8 with plenty on the line. The Rams can’t afford to overlook the Bengals. Their comfort zone is tiny with the Niners and Seahawks ahead of them. London is calling the Rams and Bengals.

Sacksonville will add to Jets’ misery

Ron Chenoy-USA TODAY Sports

Sam Darnold has to still be seeing the Patriots’ defense in his nightmares. It won’t get better Sunday as the Jets journey to Jacksonville. The Jaguars’ Sacksonville defense will pile up the QB takedowns and send Adam Gase home 1-6.

The Browns will test the Patriots

Robert Deutsch-USA TODAY Sports

Cleveland has been consistently inconsistent. The feeling is it will be pumped for the game at Foxboro and come up with a huge effort. That doesn’t mean the Browns will ruin the Pats’ perfect record. It does mean the game will be far tighter than Vegas expects.

Bengals continue to plummet

Philip G. Pavely-USA TODAY Sports

The Bengals have to travel to London for their next loss. Playing on a different continent won’t help Zac Taylor as he faces his former employer. This could get extremely ugly.

Saquon Barkley will have a huge game

The Giants’ star running back gets a sweet matchup against Detroit, which allows almost 140 yards on the ground per game. Barkley will also catch a handful of passes. That doesn’t mean Big Blue will overcome the Lions. It simply means Barkley will put on a show.

Sanders will have a bigger game than Sanu

Scott Cunningham/Getty Images

Two WRs have traded teams Tuesday. First, New England acquired Mohamed Sanu Sr. from Atlanta. Later, Denver sent Emmanuel Sanders to the Niners. Expect Sanders to catch more balls and have more yardage against Carolina than Sanu will have in his Patriot debut against Cleveland.

Seahawks will soar

Scott R. Galvin-USA TODAY Sports

The Seahawks have to be sore after losing to the Ravens, their second home loss of the season. Russell Wilson and his offense head to Atlanta, which was lit up for 37 by the Rams. Expect another big offensive show from Seattle as Dan Quinn’s team continues to crumble.

Melvin Gordon will continue to flounder

Winslow Townson-USA TODAY Sports

The Los Angeles Chargers have more losses than they had in 2018. Melvin Gordon has been pathetic since returning from his holdout. The star running back faces the Chicago Bears in Week 8. He’s not going to get healthy against Khalil Mack & Co. As anemic as the Bears’ offense has been expect it to do enough and have the defense throttle the Bolts. Don’t be stunned if Gordon winds up in another jersey before the trade deadline.

Deshaun Watson will have a field day

Kevin Jairaj-USA TODAY Sports

The Texans are coming off a divisional loss to Indy. They need to get back on track. The remedy for that is a visit from the Oakland Raiders, fresh from being dismantled by Aaron Rodgers. Look for a huge game by Deshaun Watson, multiple TD passes, one on the ground and 350 yards of total offense.

Kyler Murray will experience growing pains

AP Photo/Gary Landers

The Cardinals are 3-3-1 as they head into New Orleans. Kyler Murray is on a bit of a rookie roll. Expect that to come to a complete stop as the Saints’ defense reminds him every opponent isn’t the Giants, Bengals or Falcons.

Miami misery to continue on Monday

Steve Mitchell-USA TODAY Sports

The Dolphins played better at Buffalo. That won’t matter as they head into Pittsburgh for a Monday Night Football tussle. The Steelers’ defense will be disruptive and Brian Flores will continue to search for victory, or hope there isn’t one so he can win the NFL Draft’s top pick.

Tannehill express keeps rolling

Christopher Hanewinckel-USA TODAY Sports

When last seen, Jameis Winston was being pilfered by the Panthers. After a bye week, his Bucs travel to Tennessee. The Titans’ offense showed new life under Ryan Tannehill. Surprising as it may be, the veteran from Texas A&M will keep it going against Tampa Bay.
