The New Orleans Saints and Jacksonville Jaguars are ready to kick off an exciting game during Week 6 of the NFL regular season, pitting two backup quarterbacks against one another in Teddy Bridgewater (filling in for Drew Brees) and Gardner Minshew (taking the throne from Nick Foles). Each team has done a good job giving their suddenly-starting quarterbacks a talented supporting cast, with Bridgewater able to lean on Pro Bowlers like wide receiver Michael Thomas and running back Alvin Kamara, as well as a defense stocked with talented pass rushers Cameron Jordan and Marcus Davenport, and linebacker Demario Davis. There might not be a pair of cornerbacks playing at a higher level right now than Saints defenders Eli Apple and Marshon Lattimore.
On the other side of the field, Minshew has forged an immediate (and effective) connection with second-year pro DJ Chark. Chark and fellow LSU Tigers product Leonard Fournette figure to be amped up over Saturday’s win over the Florida Gators, and will each be looking to run wild over the team they grew up watching. Despite getting bulldozed by Carolina Panthers MVP candidate Christian McCaffrey a week ago, the Jaguars defense can’t be overlooked — their defensive line runs deep, led by veterans Calais Campbell and Yannick Ngakoue but reinforced by Josh Allen, a talented rookie pass rusher. If cornerback Jalen Ramsey plays (he’s been managing a back injury), he and linebacker Myles Jack may be the men for the task of slowing down Thomas and Kamara for the Saints.
