NFL Week 5 bold prediction: Why the Chargers will upset the Saints

The Los Angeles Chargers have a real chance at upsetting the New Orleans Saints on Monday night in Week 5. Aside from the Saints’ Week 1 performance against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, we’ve seen vulnerabilities. Their defense — even with a strong DVOA — is allowing the eighth most points per game in the NFL. Their offense looks afflicted by the absence of receiver Michael Thomas.

The Chargers, meanwhile, look hot, in part because quarterback Justin Herbert is a revelation. Once considered a project, Herbert has stepped in with productivity and competence. The missing link? He still needs to show he can win close games. That’s where the struggling Saints come in. Herbert and the Chargers defense, led by DE Nick Bosa, seem to have the pieces in place to pull off a win.
