NFL Week 2 DFS Bargain Picks: Bank on Baker Mayfield

O.K., so you spent up for Patrick Mahomes, Amon-Ra St. Brown and Travis Etienne on your Week 2 DFS lineup.

Quarterbacks

Baker Mayfield, Buccaneers

Mayfield threw two TDs in an upset win over the Vikings and this week he gets a Chicago secondary that allowed three touchdown passes to Jordan Love.

Geno Smith, Seahawks

The Seattle secondary is so bad that the Lions could get out to a big lead. That means Smith could be playing catchup, and he should have success. Though Mahomes only threw for two touchdowns last week vs. the Lions, it wasn’t because Detroit had him locked down. If Mahomes had DK Metcalf and Tyler Lockett, it would have been four. 

Running Backs

Rachaad White, Buccaneers

No, White wasn’t efficient last week vs. the Vikings but he did have a ton of volume, playing 54 snaps (fourth among running backs) and carrying the ball 17 times. He also ran 20 routes (10th). This week, he faces a Bears team that got shredded by Aaron Jones last week for an RB1 finish.

Zack Moss, Colts

Moss is expected to lead the Indianapolis backfield vs.a Houston run defense that has been the worst in the league for a few seasons now.

Cordarrelle Patterson, Falcons

Wouldn’t it be just like Arthur Smith to use three running backs, run the entire game and completely ignore Drake London and Kyle Pitts? Or even better: Wouldn’t it be just like Arthur Smith to use his running backs as wide receivers? It’s ugly, but it just might work.

Wide Receivers

Josh Reynolds, Lions

Reynolds saw a larger air yards share than Amon-Ra St. Brown last weekend, and the matchup with Seattle is so juicy.

Tutu Atwell, Rams

Everyone is so in on rookie Puka Nacua that they probably overlooked Atwell, who caught six of his eight targets, saw 118 air yards and led Rams wideouts in average depth of target (aDOT) at 14.3. Sure, the Niners defense can be tough, but last year they allowed the sixth-most receiving yards to opposing wideouts. They aren’t perfect, and Matt Stafford looks a lot friskier.

Tank Dell, Texans

Head coach DeMeco Ryans promised us more snaps for Tank Dell now that Noah Brown is on the IR. The Colts are a good matchup, and we saw rookie quarterback C.J. Stroud and Dell connect well in the preseason. He’s free for DFS.

Tight Ends

Zach Ertz, Cardinals

No tight end saw more targets last week than Ertz, yet he remains one of the most affordable on the slate. Unless you are spending up for Travis Kelce (if he goes) or Darren Waller, there’s no reason to not throw a dart at this position.

Luke Musgrave, Packers

Jordan Love impressed in his debut while Musgrave played 81% of snaps and had an 85% route participation rate. Christian Watson is likely still out and Aaron Jones could be limited, too. Meanwhile, the Falcons allowed 41 yards and a TD to Hayden Hurst last week, which was the second-most DFS points allowed to the position.
