NFL veteran Ted Ginn Jr. shares story of when LeBron James lent him one of his cars for prom

Ted Ginn Jr. of the New Orleans Saints has scored over 35 touchdown during his 12-year career as an NFL wide receiver and punt returner. But long before his professional football journey began, the speedy wideout from Cleveland, Ohio received an assist from LeBron James. During an interview with Kristine Leahy of Fox Sports 1 today, Ginn shared the story of how LeBron lent him one of his cars for senior prom way back in 2004.

At the time, James had just signed his mega-deal with Nike and was in the midst of his rookie season in the NBA with the Cleveland Cavaliers. Ginn Jr. was a senior at Glenville High School in Cleveland where he had earned Parade All-American status and a scholarship to The Ohio State University. In need of a car to take to prom, LeBron tossed the high school senior the keys to one of his new whips.

“There were plenty of times that we hung out or crossed paths at a lot of different events and different things like that growing up,” Ted Ginn Jr. said of his relationship with LeBron.

“As I got older, and he went to the NBA, my senior year I drove his car to prom. Then, my wife’s senior year, I drove one of his cars to prom again.”

Teddy went on to add that he drove a Denali truck during his first trip to prom in LeBron’s ride and then he drove a BMW to his wife’s prom. LeBron’s Akron St. Vincent-St. Mary’s High School is roughly 35 minutes away from where Ginn attended high school at Glenville. Ginn Jr.’s godfather is also Rich Paul’s godfather so the connections between the two professional athletes have run deep for many years.
