NFL tries to explain why Steelers QB Mason Rudolph walked off after concussion

Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Mason Rudolph took a brutal hit to the jaw in Sunday’s game against the Baltimore Ravens. It was so hard that he was actually knocked unconscious. All you have to do is go back and watch the replay to understand how bad this play was and how much worse it could have been. To add insult to injury, when the NFL tried to get Rudolph off the field, the cart wouldn’t start and Rudolph was forced to walk to the locker room.

But the NFL is saying this wasn’t its fault and Rudolph didn’t need a cart. Here is the statement, via ProFootballTalk:

A cart was brought on the field in the event it was needed. After evaluating the player, medical staff determined a cart was not necessary in this instance. Had one been needed, there was a backup cart on the other sideline which was immediately available. He received appropriate medical care per gameday protocols, and is now in the concussion protocol.

Show of hands: Who buys this one? The NFL once again showed just how inept it can be and then tried to justify it. Here’s what I think happened: When they realized the cart wasn’t working, the group on the field never put it together that there was another option. So they decided to make a guy who was just knocked unconscious walk off the field. Then, when it dawned on them there was another option, so they had to make up a lie to cover for how incapable their people are.
