NFL trade deadline: Bengals trade candidates, targets and cap space

The Cincinnati Bengals don’t sound like a team ready to make a splash at the 2019 NFL trade deadline.

But given the 0-8 start, it’s at least an interesting topic worth looking at, even if team history suggests otherwise. Here’s a small primer before the deadline.

When is the trade deadline?

The deadline is at 4 pm. ET. Rumors might reveal some deals before then. Keep in mind last-minute deals can still get announced well after the deadline passes (remember the AJ McCarron debacle?).

Trade Assets

The above contains names like A.J. Green for obvious reasons. He’s going to be attractive to other teams. So will Tyler Eifert for contenders. Selling for almost any price on a Cordy Glenn or Dre Kirkpatrick could save massive amounts of cap space for the future.

Trade Targets

If the Bengals shock and want to buy at the deadline, smaller-known targets like Eagles OL Halapoulivaati Vaitai make a ton of sense, as he’s versatile and can start at various spots. Buying very low on for-sale upside like Vic Beasley could make some sense too.

Cap Outlook

Per Spotrac, the Bengals have about $14.5 million in free space. Keep in mind A.J. Green is on the last year of his deal.
