Denver Broncos general manager John Elway confirmed during his pre-draft press conference Tuesday that NFL teams have already called him about potentially trading for the 10th overall pick in this year’s NFL draft.
“That happens every year,” Elway explained. “Whether they want to move or not, they’re going to make some calls. But until you get close enough — there’s no compensation that’s been thrown out there as far as, ‘We’d like to come up to 10 for X.’ There’s been no compensation discussed.”
Elway was also asked if he believed any teams would trade above them and he said no, but the GM noted that surprises happen every year.
“There’s never as much movement as you think there’s going to be,” Elway said. “But, it always surprises you too, so you never know.”
Elway seemed comfortable with staying put or trading down.
“I’m fine at 10 too,” he said. “We’ll see what happens.”
The first round of the draft will take place on Thursday evening.
