NFL stadium branded 'death trap' after fans fall in frightening stand collapse

The FedExField Stadium in Washington has been labelled a ‘death trap' after NFL fans were seen falling in a frightening stand collapse on Sunday night.

The scare took place as Washington hosted Philadelphia Eagles, where the Eagles ran out 20-16 winners.

Following the match, Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts made his way off the field to plenty of adoring fans, however what seemed to be a celebration almost turned into tragedy.

As Hurts made his way down to the stadium tunnel a stand to his left gave way, resulting in a number of cheering supporters falling over barriers and to the feet of the quarterback.

The Eagles man - who proved to be one of the stars of the show on the field - quickly jumped to the help of the fallen fans, as he attempted to help them up from what could have been a frightening crush.

Since the collapse the Mail has reported that a photo runner for The Associated Press Mark Tenally was injured in the fall, and attended to by the FedExField medical team.

A video of the stand giving way was uploaded to Twitter, as user @thebennatan said: “FedExField is a death trap.”

The video then went viral across the NFL social media community, as one fan - @AlexJohnsonFry1 - replied: “Couple feet away from ending Hurts’ career”

Whilst @jayzturf responded: “I was thinking the same thing that could have been bad for him and those fans”

The Washington Football Team is contracted to remain at the criticised FedExField until 2027, however the team have recently attempted to make a move to the inconveniently located Landover, Maryland.

Team officials also recently met with legislators in Virginia, as they attempt to get backing to set up a new home stadium in Northern Virginia.

Regarding a stadium change the Washington owner Daniel Snyder said in May last year: “So we're looking everywhere … looking at the future. … We're making big plans.”
