NFL sets salary cap for Broncos, 31 other teams

The NFL’s 2019 salary cap number will be $188.2 million, NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reported Friday. That’s an increase from $177.2 million in 2018 and $167 million in 2017.

With the league’s salary cap set, we can now begin calculating how much money the Denver Broncos will be allowed to spend in 2019. Denver did not use $8 million worth of cap space last year, so that will roll over into their 2019 total.

So the Broncos’ salary cap this season will be $196.2 million. Before making any money-saving cuts, Denver is scheduled to have around $150,608,046 worth of contracts count against its cap in 2019, according to OverTheCap.com.

So if we subtract that $150.6 million from the salary cap of $188.2 million, the Broncos have around $37,591,954 in available salary cap space. That’s before acquiring quarterback Joe Flacco, though.

Flacco will have a salary cap hit of $18.5 million in 2019, bringing Denver’s cap space down to $19,091,954. But it’s worth mentioning again that the Broncos have not yet begun making any offseason cuts.

Once general manager John Elway makes a few cap-saving moves, Denver will be in a much better position financially.
