NFL seeks Jabrill Peppers docs amid Cleveland Police investigation

NEW YORK _ Jabrill Peppers is entangled in a months-long Cleveland Police investigation involving homicide, though law enforcement stresses the newly minted Giant is not a suspect, according to multiple reports.

The latest twist Tuesday involved the NFL requesting information from the police department regarding a reported theft on Jan. 29, in which multiple items from the strong safety's car, including a Glock semi-automatic handgun, were allegedly stolen.

Marsha Carroll, who had been listed as a suspect in the robbery, was found beaten on Feb. 6. Carroll, a 57-year-old homeless woman, died from injuries sustained from the beating a week later, and Deointa Campbell, 26, was later charged with murder in connection to her death.

An NFL security representative asked the Cleveland Police for "any and all documentation regarding the reported theft of items belonging to Jabrill Peppers..." in addition to "any documentation indicating Jabrill Peppers is not a suspect in (Carroll's) homicide," according to News 5 Cleveland.

The NFL did not respond to the outlet's request for comment on the information request.

Other items reportedly looted from Peppers' 2014 Range Rover included a bag containing a jersey emblazoned with his former Browns No. 22, sunglasses and an iPad.

"We are aware of the situation in Cleveland," the Giants said in a Tuesday evening statement provided to the Daily News' Pat Leonard. "The NFL has been aware of this situation for some time. Jabrill is not the subject of an investigation by the Cleveland Police Department. For confirmation, see tweets from @CLEpolice."

Cleveland Police emphasized in a follow-up tweet Tuesday that "Mr. Peppers is not a suspect in any incidents with @CLEpolice."

Peppers, a New Jersey native, was dealt from Cleveland to the Giants as part of the Odell Beckham blockbuster.
