NFL Scouting Combine’s on-field drills are moving to prime-time TV

The NFL is all about big business and capitalizing on the next big thing. On Wednesday the league announced that the NFL Combine will return to Indianapolis through 2021, the NFL Network’s Judy Battista reported.

Batista also announced changes surrounding on-field drills and next year, the televised portion of the highly watched on-field drills will shift from the morning and afternoon to the afternoon and prime-time slots on Thursday, Friday and Saturday.

For the league, the later start to the on-field portion of the workouts will allow more fans from around the globe to now see their favorite college stars workout one last time, before becoming pros.

“We are always looking at ways of bringing more football to a wider audience,” the league said in a statement to NFL Network. “This will enable us to accomplish the goal of reaching more fans while still fully maintaining the football integrity of the event. We will adjust the schedule to ensure a positive experience for the players and clubs.

The NFL Scouting Combine is one of two or three times per season, where all the NFL’s personnel evaluators, along with team general managers, coaching staffs and others, all descend into one vicinity. The combine is now the place where a lot of free agent and pre-draft deals are brokered.
