NFL Salary Cap jumps $11 million to to $188.2 million

The headline really says it all, as the NFL announced that the salary cap will jump from $177.2 million to $188.2 million.  As a reminder, the salary cap is tied to how much money the league makes, so it’s a pretty good sign that this is the sixth year in a row that the cap has increased by $10 million or more. That’s a sign of a healthy money making machine. It’s also good news for free agents looking to cash in.

This cap number is what we’ve really been waiting for. The new league year could start now. In fact, the NFL should do just start the league year once the cap is set. There’s really no downtime in the NFL. Take the three weeks off after the Super Bowl and then start it up. There’s no need to wait until March 13 to get these things started. We don’t need two weeks for franchise tags, and we should start the league year as soon as possible.

No one wants time without football anyways.
