NFL rookie QBs predict their Madden 22 ratings and most of them are overly optimistic

There’s nothing quite as controversial as Madden ratings, where NFL players are consistently left feeling disrespected — unless they’re among the select few that make the 99 Club.

Most players are unsatisfied by their Madden ratings, and it’s even worse for rookies coming into the league. Which makes sense given they’ve yet to prove themselves in the NFL.

The Checkdown had some of the new quarterbacks from this draft class predict their rookie Madden overall ratings, and, for the most part, they were overly optimistic.

San Francisco 49ers quarterback Trey Lance believes he would receive an 88 rating “because I can do a lot of things, I can make plays.” New England Patriots quarterback Mac Jones thinks “my Madden rating would be lower than people give me credit for.” He settled for an 85, but he thinks they’ll lowball him.

But New York Jets quarterback Zach Wilson was the most optimistic of all saying he’d give himself a 90 rating because “it’s okay, but not great, because I haven’t done anything yet.”

Chicago Bears quarterback Justin Fields might be the only one who understands how Madden ratings work. Fields predicted his Madden rating will be between 78 and 81, “of course, because, rookies.”

Have a look:

For what it’s worth, Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow received a 79 rating, which ranked the highest among rookie quarterbacks last year. Former Indianapolis Colts quarterback Andrew Luck managed the highest ever Madden rating for a rookie quarterback with an 83.
